Last week I was made aware that a friend in the ophthalmology industry had suddenly passed after a tragic bicycle accident.
Dr. Jeffrey Gilbard was a pioneer in the research and treatment of dry eye disease and the founder/CEO of Advanced Vision Research, makers of Thera Tears.
We met Jeff at an ASCRS meeting when he was first introducing Thera Tears. His passion and brilliance for the science of medicine was alway very obvious. I also remember him putting a drop of Thera Tears on the tip of my index finger and instructing me to rub my finger and thumb together and feel the lubricating difference of his new product and other eye drops.
Later, through conversations I had with other other highly respected ophthalmologists, I came to better understand what an impact Jeff had made in the industry. He will definitely be missed by many.
“Nothing great in the world has ever been accomplished without passion.”
